PDM Kabupaten Sukabumi Collaborates with UMMI to Provide Education on Stunting Through a National Seminar

Sukabumi, ummi.ac.id – To address the severe issue of stunting, the Public Health Development Council of Sukabumi Regency (MPKU) collaborated with Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabumi (UMMI) to organize a National Seminar with the theme "Effective Strategies for Accelerating the Reduction of Stunting Prevalence." The event took place on Monday (02/01/2024) at the UMMI Auditorium.

The seminar featured competent speakers, including Dr. Reny Sukamawani, M.P., the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabumi, Dr. Muhamad Afandi, M.T., the Director of Politeknik STIA LAN Bandung, H. Cucu Sumitardi, S.KM., M.KM., the Head of the Health Development Division of the Sukabumi Regency Health Office, and Timan Sutiman, S.P., the Vice Chairman of PDM Sukabumi.

In his opening remarks, Drs. Mansur Syah, M.M., the Chairman of PDM Kab. Sukabumi expressed deep concern about the high prevalence of stunting in Sukabumi Regency.

"I am very concerned about the high prevalence of stunting in Sukabumi Regency. Through this seminar, I hope to gather innovative ideas from experts, health practitioners, and other stakeholders to find more effective strategies in addressing this issue," he said.

On the other hand, Drs. Iyos Somanti, M.Si., appointed as the keynote speaker, emphasized that stunting prevention should not only focus on the nutritional aspects of food but also include a holistic approach involving various sectors, from health to social and economic environments. He also presented steps governments and academics can take to reduce stunting rates in the Sukabumi Regency, including Improved Nutrition, Quality Health Services, Nutrition Education, Infrastructure Development, Collaboration, and Partnerships.

"The prevention of stunting is not only the government's responsibility but also a shared responsibility of the entire community," he said.

With strong collaboration and collective commitment, the stunting rate can be significantly reduced to create a healthier and higher-quality future generation.
