Sukabumi, ummi.ac.id — To preserve and reintroduce the local Sundanese culture of Sukabumi, known as "Gekbreng," the Department of Culture, Youth, and Sports of Sukabumi Regency and the Association of English Literature Students organized the event "Appreciation of Gekbreng Art as Sundanese Cultural Heritage." This program implements the collaboration between the English Literature study program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabumi and the Department of Culture, Youth, and Sports of Sukabumi Regency. Members of the Sukabumi Regency Cultural Council and the academic community of UMMI attended the event.

Unlike regular events, this program was guided by a Master of Ceremony (MC) using two languages, combining Sundanese and English. This bilingual approach aims to practice regional and foreign languages for students, especially those majoring in English Literature, and in general, for all students or young people who can familiarize themselves with more than one language.

In an interview with the chairperson of the Association of English Literature Students, Muhammad Maliq, he stated, "This activity is a tangible form of introducing and preserving Sundanese culture in Sukabumi, especially Gekbreng itself. The hope is that this activity can cultivate sensitivity and awareness among the community about the importance of understanding and recognizing their own local culture as an ancestral heritage that withstands the test of time. Also, we hope that the Department of Culture, Youth, and Sports of Sukabumi Regency and its officials can continue to collaborate in organizing similar cultural events."
