Sukabumi,ummi.ac.id - In a notable gathering aimed at bridging cultural and religious divides, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabumi (UMMI) recently hosted a thought-provoking book discussion at its UMMI Auditorium. The event, themed "The Western and Islamic Worlds: Rethinking Universal Humanity", drew a diverse crowd of students, interfaith leaders, community figures, and representatives from various Islamic and youth organizations. This event, held in the spirit of Ramadan on Thursday (03/21/2024) provided a platform for vibrant dialogue and mutual understanding between the Western and Islamic worlds.

The discussion centered around a compelling work by Dr. (HC) dr. Sudibyo Markus, M.B.A., a respected member of the Expert Council of the Social Services Council of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah. Dr. Markus is celebrated for his contributions to inter-civilizational dialogue. His latest book offers fresh insights into the potential for cooperation and mutual respect between diverse cultures and religions, moving beyond the narratives of conflict that often dominate such discussions.

UMMI Rector Dr. Reny Sukmawani, M.P., in her remarks, highlighted the crucial role of the youth in fostering a more inclusive and understanding world, urging them to participate in dialogues that bridge civilizations actively. The event also featured an interactive Q&A session, further engaging attendees and underlining the high level of interest in collaborative and constructive approaches to intercultural dialogue.

The book discussion at UMMI represents a significant step toward promoting cultural diversity and supporting intercultural dialogue, with the university continuing to play a pivotal role in enhancing the relationship between the Western and Islamic worlds through education and open discourse.
